People Power Party Unable to Register Amid 'Candidate Replacement' Turmoil
On May 10, the first day of candidate registration for the 21st presidential election, a total of six individuals completed their candidate registrations.
According to the National Election Commission, six candidates submitted their registration documents on this day: Lee Jaemyung of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Junseok of the Reform Party, Kwon Youngguk of the Democratic Labor Party, Gu Juwa of the Liberty Unification Party, Song Jin-ho as an independent, and Hwang Kyo-ahn as an independent.
The People Power Party, which is in the process of replacing its candidate from Kim Moonsoo to Han Ducksoo, has not yet registered a candidate. Candidate registration will continue until 6:00 p.m. on May 11, and candidate numbers will be assigned after the registration deadline. The official election campaign will begin on May 12.
