Lee Announces Marine Corps Policy
"I Will Restore Its Honor"
Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that he will ensure the passage of the Chae Sangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act to restore the honor of the Marine Corps.
On May 10, Lee announced his Marine Corps policy on his Facebook page, declaring, "I will build a strong K-Defense nation where the honor of the Marine Corps is respected."
Lee emphasized that his top priority is to ensure the passage of the "Special Prosecutor Act for the Investigation of the Chae Sangbyeong Incident" (Chae Sangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act). He said, "I will restore the honor of the Marine Corps, which has been tarnished, and ensure that Colonel Park Junghoon, who fulfilled his investigative duties in the face of illegal authority, is reinstated. I will also uncover the full truth behind external interference and ensure that those responsible are held accountable."
He also pledged to reorganize the Marine Corps into an independent "quasi-four-branch system." This system would effectively make the Marine Corps independent from the current Army, Navy, and Air Force structure.
Lee stated, "I will specialize the Marine Corps’ mission in amphibious operations and rapid response, and support the establishment of advanced surveillance systems for coastal and riverside defense missions currently assigned to the Marine Corps." He also included the construction of an independent Marine Corps hall in his pledges.
Lee declared, "I will position the Marine Corps at the forefront as an invincible, smart, and powerful military force that wins on the battlefields of the 21st century. I will lay a solid foundation so that the Marine Corps can earn the trust of the people and take firm responsibility for the security of the Republic of Korea."
