The Special Committee for Public Transportation was established on June 18 last year with the aim of guaranteeing residents' right to mobility and improving transportation welfare. After extending its activity period once, the committee plans to conclude its work on June 17 next month.
During this period, the committee received briefings from the Jeonnam Provincial Construction and Transportation Bureau on the overall state of public transportation operations in the province. The committee also reviewed the effectiveness of Gyeonggi Province's Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) policy and was briefed on the status of the fully public bus system project in Sinan County. In addition, the committee has been actively engaged in activities such as hosting a forum on strategies for the development of demand-responsive transportation systems.
Chairperson Kim Injeong stated, "Although the period was short, thanks to the active participation of the members, we were able to collectively consider the direction of public transportation tailored to Jeonnam. I would like to thank all the members." She added, "Jeonnam has many transportation-vulnerable residents, including the elderly and young people, who find it difficult to drive themselves. We will continue to work hard to improve the system and develop policy alternatives to establish a sustainable public transportation service system."
The Special Committee consists of a total of nine members: Chairperson Kim Injeong, Jin Hokeon (Gokseong), Lee Donghyeon (Boseong 2), Kim Moonsu (Sinan 1), Cha Youngsu (Gangjin), Park Seonjun (Goheung 2), Kim Jeongi (Suncheon 8), Park Hyunsuk (Proportional Representation), and Lim Jirak (Hwasun 1).
