Goheung County Conducts Human Rights Survey for Foreign Seasonal Workers

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor: Gong Youngmin) announced on May 9 that it is conducting a fact-finding survey to protect the human rights of foreign seasonal workers and improve related systems. The survey examines whether employers and workers are complying with regulations and assesses their satisfaction levels.

On May 8, Deputy Governor Jo Daejung visited a seasonal worker workplace to listen to employers' difficulties and inspect the working environment of the employees. He directly checked for any human rights violations, including whether appropriate accommodations were provided and whether the Labor Standards Act was being observed.

Deputy Governor Jo stated, "Now, rural areas inevitably have to rely on an increasing number of foreign seasonal workers," and added, "We will do our utmost to prevent human rights violations so that foreign workers can live stably and return to their home countries in good health." He continued, "We will focus our administrative efforts to ensure that local farmers and fishers do not face management difficulties due to labor shortages."

Meanwhile, this survey will be conducted until May 16. It is not just a simple facility inspection but will comprehensively examine the overall situation, including the protection of workers' rights and the improvement of human rights awareness.
