Jeon Ikhyun: "We Will Develop a Sustainable Festival Model"

The Chungnam Provincial Council’s “Research Group for the Historical and Cultural Festival of Korea’s First Bible Transmission Site” held its second meeting at the Seocheon Bible Transmission Site Memorial Hall on the afternoon of May 9, discussing the development of a festival to commemorate the historical significance of Korea’s first Bible transmission.
During the meeting, the research group presented an inception report for a research project aimed at concretizing the planning and execution of a historical and cultural festival centered on the “Maryangpogu Bible Transmission Site,” a historical asset of Seocheon.
The research project is scheduled to run for about seven months, from May to November 2025, and will include an analysis of the historical and cultural significance of Maryangpogu, research on similar cases both domestically and internationally, the development of core festival programs, and strategies for economic linkage with local tourism resources. The project aims to propose a sustainable festival strategy.
After listening to the inception report during the second meeting, members of the provincial council’s research group discussed detailed strategies to connect the historical and cultural festival at Korea’s first Bible transmission house with revitalization of the local economy.
Jeon Ikhyun, the representative of the research group and a council member (Democratic Party, Seocheon 1), said, “Maryangpogu, the site of Korea’s first Bible transmission, is like a hidden treasure of Seocheon. Based on its historical value and cultural significance, we will work harder to enhance local pride and create a sustainable regional festival model.”
