On the afternoon of the 9th, more than 20 organizations?including the May 18 Democratization Movement Casualties Association, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Emergency Situation Council, and the Democratic Innovation Council of Gwangju?held a press conference at the Citizens' Communication Room of the Gwangju City Council, declaring, "The dissolution of the People Power Party, the party of insurrection, is the starting point for ending the insurrection."
They stated, "This early presidential election was created by the people who, after the declaration of the 12·3 Martial Law, fought for the impeachment of Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of the insurrection, holding candles and cheering sticks," and emphasized, "The ultimate goal of the presidential election is the establishment of a democratic government and the eradication of insurrectionist forces."
They further criticized, "The People Power Party is the political party most responsible for the insurrection, yet instead of reflecting or apologizing, they are fielding a presidential candidate and seeking to regain power. They are even shamelessly attempting to unify insurrectionist candidates."
The participating organizations stated, "If they are left unchecked, there will be a second Yoon Sukyeol and a repeat of the insurrection," and declared, "Together with voters in Gwangju and Jeonnam, we will continue to demand the withdrawal of the People Power Party's presidential candidate and the dissolution of the party until the end."
