The video shared by an online user shows a school of fish rising upward, carried by a tornado from the sea, then floating through the sky on the wind. At a glance, it looks like a flock of birds flying through a storm. This bizarre scene was witnessed at Baie Mahault, in the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean Sea. It is reported that some of the airborne fish were carried all the way to land and even fell onto the road. One resident said, "My son, who was outside, told me that fish were falling from the sky," adding, "I thought he was joking, but it was real, and I was very surprised." Some residents picked up the fish that had fallen on the road. Although tornadoes occur in this area every year, this is the first time such a strange phenomenon has taken place.

The Guadeloupe meteorological authorities explained, "A tornado that occurred in the Caribbean Sea on the afternoon of May 4 caused damage to the village." Local authorities stated that they are working to assess the extent of the damage and support affected residents. A similar case was previously reported around February 2023 in the town of Lajamanu in northern Australia. At that time as well, hundreds of fish rained down from the sky like raindrops, and experts analyzed that a storm that occurred in a river about 500 kilometers away had lifted the fish into the air.

Meteorologists analyzed that a strong tornado creates a phenomenon called a waterspout, which lifts organisms near the water's surface into the air. A waterspout is an air current phenomenon that occurs when the direction of wind blowing at the ground surface differs from the direction of wind blowing at higher altitudes. The name "waterspout" comes from its resemblance to the image of an Imugi (a mythical Korean serpent) ascending to become a dragon. In the Caribbean region, there are 1,500 tornadoes of various sizes each year. This particular tornado was not very powerful, so the authorities did not issue any advance warnings or advisories.
