Jungnang-gu to Create "Safe Alleys" Using Big Data Analysis of CCTV and Population Movement

Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi) will select and create optimal "Safe Alley" locations based on data analysis, so that residents can live more safely in their daily lives.

This project aims to scientifically analyze and identify the best candidate sites in order to effectively implement the "Expansion of Safe Alleys" initiative, which is a pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration. The goal is to develop effective policies based on this analysis.

To this end, the district will comprehensively analyze a variety of data, including the current status of existing safety facilities such as CCTV cameras, streetlights, emergency safety bells, and Safe House for Women, as well as data on Seoul's daily population movement, housing types, distribution of single-person households, and crime occurrence statistics.

In particular, the district will utilize an urban safety environment analysis model that applies spatial analysis techniques to calculate a public safety index, identify risk factors in advance, and select the optimal candidate locations for Safe Alleys based on these findings.

The areas to be analyzed include Myeonmok-bondong, Myeonmok 2-dong, Myeonmok 4-dong, Myeonmok 7-dong, Sangbong 1-dong, Sangbong 2-dong, Junghwa 2-dong, and Mangwoo 3-dong.

The analysis will be conducted through June 2025. Based on the data collected and analyzed in-house, the district will identify new locations for Safe Alley installations and utilize these findings in future policy development and implementation.

The district expects that this data analysis will not only help create a safer pedestrian environment, but also contribute to fostering an environment where residents can experience a higher level of safety in their daily lives.

Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "We will continue to expand citizen-centered policies through data-driven scientific administration," and added, "Through this Safe Alley project, we hope to create a safe pedestrian environment and enable residents to feel an even greater sense of safety in their everyday lives."
