Gyeonggi Province is launching the "Traveling Book Busking" initiative to propose a reading journey of "A Thousand Books Road" to enrich the lives of its residents.
Book Busking is a mobile reading project that visits everyday locations such as traditional markets and parks throughout the province, where residents can gather to read books and share their thoughts together.
The first event will take place at 2:00 p.m. on May 9 at Hangul Market in Yeoju. There will be a reading of the book "Body Sound," recommended by singer Lim Youngwoong. In addition, Yeoju University will donate 100 books with the message "We support 100 books, 100 dreams." The donated books will be available for anyone to freely read through the "Book Truck A Thousand Books Road" mobile book cafe.
Following this, a picture book reading busking event for families will be held on May 10 at Sampae Park in Namyangju and on May 11 at Dongtan Lake Park in Hwaseong. The event will feature a demonstration reading by a professional announcer, pronunciation and expression coaching, interactive games, sharing of personal stories, and brief meditation sessions, offering a variety of experiences centered around books.
Additionally, at 2:00 p.m. on June 7, a special lecture by mental health expert Dr. Jeong Hyeshin, titled "You Are Right to Read with Your Hands: Time to Heal and Recover Everyday Life," will be held at the 111CM Multipurpose Cultural Space of the Suwon Cultural Foundation's Culture City Center.
Park Minkyeong, Director of Library Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We have created a mobile library and planned hands-on cultural programs to help residents become more familiar with books," adding, "We hope that many people will discover the joy of reading in their daily lives through Book Busking."
Gyeonggi Province plans to operate reading culture programs that can be experienced in everyday life under the vision of "A Thousand Books Road: Transformative Reading in Practice," including year-round book busking, special lectures by prominent figures, and family ritual challenges.
