Special Meals Including Braised Beef Short Ribs Provided to 919 Seniors
Seasonal Fruits Delivered to 140 Senior Centers
On May 8, which is Parents' Day, Dongdaemun District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pilhyung) announced that it provided special meals to low-income seniors as an expression of gratitude and respect.
This special meal was organized as part of the "Free Meal Support for Low-Income Seniors" program and was prepared for 919 seniors who are eligible for the service. The district prepared dishes that are usually difficult to serve due to complicated cooking processes or high ingredient costs, so that the seniors could enjoy a more satisfying meal.
The special menu was designed by five implementing organizations, including the Dongdaemun Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, taking into account the seniors' nutritional needs and preferences. A variety of dishes were served, such as braised beef short ribs, braised pork ribs, ox knee soup, and chopped steak.
This program provides customized meal services to low-income seniors aged 60 or older who are at risk of missing meals, including the use of senior meal centers, delivery of lunch boxes, and side dishes. Through this initiative, the district aims to ensure basic nutritional intake and livelihood security, while also providing emotional care by checking on the seniors during the delivery process to help prevent solitary deaths.
In addition, on this day, the district delivered seasonal fruits to 140 senior centers in the area to commemorate Parents' Day.
Lee Pilhyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, stated, "We have prepared these special meals with sincerity and respect for the elderly on Parents' Day," and added, "We will continue to implement policies to support the happy lives of our seniors."
