Trump Signs First Trade Agreement with UK: "Many More Deals to Follow" Donald Trump US President

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will sign his first trade agreement with the United Kingdom following the announcement of global high tariffs.

On May 8 (local time), President Trump announced on his self-founded social media platform, Truth Social, that a press conference would be held at 10 a.m. Eastern Time in the Oval Office. He stated, "It will be a very important and exciting day for both the United States and the United Kingdom."

President Trump said, "A comprehensive and all-encompassing agreement with the United Kingdom will solidify the relationship between our two countries for years to come." He added, "It is an honor to announce that the United Kingdom is our 'first' partner, thanks to our long history and alliance."

He also mentioned, "Many other agreements that are in serious negotiation stages will follow," suggesting that negotiations with major allies and friendly nations are heading toward conclusion.

Previously, President Trump had announced on Truth Social that he would hold a press conference on this day with representatives of "a large and highly respected country" regarding a major trade agreement. He did not disclose which country would be the counterpart in the agreement.

Afterward, major media outlets reported that an announcement on a trade agreement with the United Kingdom was expected. Local media predicted that the agreement with the United Kingdom might remain at the level of providing a basic framework for future additional negotiations and might not be very specific.
