The city of Gwangju, known as the "leading city of AI," has joined hands with two AI companies that are recognized in the global market for their innovative technology.

On May 8, at the city hall business room, Gwangju City signed the "Gwangju-style Artificial Intelligence (AI) Business Agreement" (the 280th and 281st agreements) with DeepX Co., Ltd., a leading on-device AI company, and Nota Co., Ltd., a company specializing in AI optimization.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Kijeong, Kim Nokwon, CEO of DeepX Co., Ltd., Chae Myungsu, CEO of Nota Co., Ltd., Kang Hyunseo, Director of the Honam Research Headquarters at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Kwak Jaedo, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group.

DeepX Co., Ltd. will conduct business in Gwangju developing and commercializing AI semiconductors for electronic devices, while Nota Co., Ltd. will develop and commercialize platforms that optimize AI to be smaller and faster, ensuring smooth operation.

The city expects that, in line with the recent on-device AI trend where AI operates directly on electronic devices, this agreement will expand the local AI ecosystem by applying AI technology to Gwangju's key industries such as mobility and home appliances.

Under the agreement, these companies will actively cooperate in the following areas: development and commercialization of on-device AI semiconductors and solutions applicable to Gwangju's strategic industries; establishment of local offices and other facilities to promote business; and creation of quality jobs by fostering AI professionals. The city plans to support the sustainable growth of these companies through administrative assistance, professional training, and employment linkage programs.

With the attraction of DeepX Co., Ltd., Gwangju City has now established cooperative relationships with a total of 10 fabless companies. Among them, two companies have recently opened local offices or are preparing to launch full-scale business activities. This development indicates that fabless companies relocating to Gwangju are not stopping at business agreements but are taking root in the city, accelerating both the growth of enterprises through the application of AI technology in local industries and the influx of AI companies into Gwangju.

Nota Co., Ltd. is a leading company in on-device generative AI, with strengths in lightweight technology that optimizes complex AI algorithms for semiconductor environments and enables smooth operation even on small devices. In April, the company was named one of the "Global Top 100 Innovative AI Startups" by CB Insights, a globally influential AI market research firm, demonstrating its outstanding technological competitiveness and business potential.

Mayor Kang Kijeong stated, "With the addition of leading players in both hardware (semiconductors) and software (platforms), which are the core of on-device AI technology, Gwangju's AI semiconductor industry ecosystem has become even stronger. As a city focused on AI demonstration, built on AI infrastructure, companies, and talent, Gwangju will spare no effort to support companies so they can grow stably."
