TV Advertising Market Shrinks... CJ ENM Reports Q1 Operating Profit of 700 Million Won, Down 94.3% Year-on-Year

Sales Down 1.4%... Net Loss Reaches 82.1 Billion Won

CJ ENM posted disappointing results for the first quarter of this year, recording an operating profit of 700 million won and a net loss of 82.1 billion won.

According to CJ ENM on May 8, the company reported consolidated sales of 1.1383 trillion won for the first quarter of 2025, down 1.4% compared to the same period last year. Operating profit dropped by 94.3% to 700 million won. The net loss widened significantly to 82.169 billion won, compared to a net loss of 34.786 billion won in the first quarter of last year.


By segment, the media platform business posted sales of 292.8 billion won, down 6.8% year-on-year due to a contraction in the TV advertising market, and recorded an operating loss of 5.7 billion won.


The scripted content (film and drama) segment saw sales decrease by 13.8% year-on-year to 315.9 billion won due to lower overseas distribution revenue, with an operating loss of 23.2 billion won. The music segment recorded sales of 167.2 billion won and an operating profit of 2.7 billion won.


The commerce segment achieved first-quarter sales of 362.3 billion won, up 4.2% year-on-year, and an operating profit of 26.2 billion won, driven by the strengthening of video shopping content IP and the performance of mobile live commerce.


A CJ ENM representative stated, "We will focus on maximizing platform competitiveness with well-made content and enhancing the capabilities of global artists to restore profitability."
