Changwon Special City Visits Centenarians to Present Longevity Plaques

A Day of Gratitude Held in Celebration of the 53rd Parents' Day

On May 8, to mark the 53rd Parents' Day, Changwon Special City spent a meaningful day by visiting local centenarians and making calls to respected seniors in the community to express gratitude.

On this day, Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, personally visited the home of a centenarian who turned 100 this year, presented a longevity plaque, and pinned a carnation to express respect and congratulations. This household, where four generations live together, is praised by neighbors as a model family for fostering a harmonious atmosphere and practicing respect for elders.


To convey respect and gratitude to the elderly in the community, Changwon City made direct phone calls to three local chapters of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, veterans' organizations such as the Disabled Veterans Association, individuals recognized for filial piety, and exemplary seniors. Through these calls, the city expressed deep appreciation for their lifelong dedication to their families and society.


Acting Mayor Jang stated, "Visiting centenarians in person and expressing gratitude is not just a formality, but a fundamental duty and a cherished tradition that our society must uphold. Even though some greetings are made by phone, I will continue to work harder for the city's development with sincere respect for each individual's dedication."


Meanwhile, Changwon City provides a longevity plaque and congratulatory gifts to centenarians and delivers birthday gifts to those aged 100 and over on their birthdays. Currently, there are 95 centenarians in the city, with the oldest residing in Bansong-dong and known as Mr. Kim.
