The Metropolitan Transport Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will hold a Daegu region meeting for the establishment of the 5th Metropolitan Transport Implementation Plan at Daegu Technopark on May 9. The meeting will share the progress of projects included in the 4th Metropolitan Transport Implementation Plan, which ends this year, and discuss proposed projects for the 5th plan, which will be implemented over the next five years starting next year.
In Daegu, the Ansim-Hayang Line, the first metropolitan railway extension of a local city subway, opened at the end of last year. The meeting will share the progress of 10 existing projects that were included in the 4th plan, including this line. The city will also request that one metropolitan road project be included in the 5th plan. North Gyeongsang Province plans to share the progress of three existing projects and request the inclusion of 13 new projects in the 5th plan. These new projects consist of nine metropolitan railway projects, three metropolitan road projects, and one transfer center.
The Korea Transport Institute will report the results of its review of the 14 newly proposed projects. The institute will also provide information on the economic feasibility analysis for each project, identification of new projects, consultations with local governments, and future schedules such as public hearings. Previously, the Metropolitan Transport Commission held a meeting in the Busan-Ulsan region in March and in the Gwangju region last month. Meetings in the Daejeon region are scheduled for May 14, and in the Seoul metropolitan area next month, with the aim of gathering regional opinions within the first half of the year.
