A Japanese woman who suddenly kissed BTS member Jin during a fan meeting event has been referred to the prosecution.
The Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced on May 8 that a Japanese woman in her 50s, identified as Ms. A, has been sent to the prosecution on charges of indecent assault in a publicly crowded place under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Ms. A is accused of suddenly kissing Jin on the cheek during a free hug session at a fan meeting event held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, in June last year, to celebrate the 11th anniversary of BTS's debut. At the time, a video of Jin looking visibly startled spread on online communities, sparking controversy over sexual harassment. Some internet users reported Ms. A to the police.
The police requested international investigative cooperation from Interpol Japan in July last year and identified Ms. A after seven months. At the end of January this year, the police booked Ms. A and summoned her as a suspect. However, as the investigation was expected to take a considerable amount of time, they decided to suspend the investigation in March. According to police investigation regulations, if a suspect remains overseas for more than two months and cannot be investigated, and the investigation cannot be concluded, the investigation may be suspended.
Meanwhile, another woman, identified as Ms. B, who is also suspected of suddenly kissing Jin, remains unaccounted for, and the investigation into her case is still suspended.
