Support for Preserving Reproductive Cells
Against Loss of Fertility Due to Medical Treatments
The Changwon, Masan, and Jinhae Public Health Centers in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, are operating a program that provides financial support for egg and sperm freezing costs for citizens who may face difficulties with future pregnancies due to cancer treatment or reproductive organ removal.
This program partially covers the costs of collecting, freezing, and storing eggs or sperm to increase the possibility of future pregnancies for individuals expected to experience reduced reproductive function due to procedures such as ovary or testicle removal, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.
For women, up to 2 million won is provided for the costs associated with egg retrieval, freezing, and initial storage. For men, up to 300,000 won is provided for sperm collection, freezing, and storage. In both cases, 50% of the out-of-pocket expenses are covered once per person.
To apply, individuals must submit the required supporting documents to their local public health center within six months of the date of reproductive cell collection, after undergoing the procedure at a medical institution. However, only reproductive cells collected on or after January 1 of this year are eligible for support.
In addition, Changwon City is implementing various other support policies to help overcome infertility, including support for infertility treatment costs, infertility diagnosis costs, and Korean medicine treatment for infertile couples.
For more detailed information about the program, inquiries can be made to the Changwon, Masan, or Jinhae Public Health Centers.
