Gwangju Science Museum to Host Special "Solar Observatory" Event on May 17-18

The National Gwangju Science Museum will hold a special astronomy event, the "Solar Observatory," where participants can directly observe solar activity with their own eyes, for two days starting from May 17.

The museum announced on May 8 that during this event, visitors will be able to observe solar prominences, which are part of the Sun's atmosphere, through a solar telescope, and also view sunspots using a telescope equipped with a solar filter. The Sun is a star that emits its own light and is the closest celestial body to Earth.

The Sun undergoes cycles of activity approximately every 11 years, and it is currently in a "solar maximum" period, when sunspots and prominences are especially active. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the Sun in its most dynamic state.

The event will take place in front of the Starlight Observatory from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 17 and 18. Anyone can participate by registering on-site. There is no participation fee, and the event will be canceled in case of rain. For information on event operation and further details, please visit the museum's website.
