On May 8, Yongsan-gu in Seoul announced that it has unveiled its official Vtuber, 'Yongirang', on the district's website, marking the beginning of its digital communication administration in earnest.
'Yongirang' is a virtual character, or Vtuber (virtual YouTuber), created to deliver the district's key policies and administrative information in a friendly and accessible manner. The character reflects real human facial expressions and movements, and will be active in video content and on social networking services (SNS).
The name 'Yongirang' combines 'Yong' from 'Yongsan' and 'irang', which means 'together', signifying 'a friend together with Yongsan'. The character concept is that of a 'new public official' in Yongsan-gu. 'Yongirang' is expected to provide residents with guidance on civil complaints, policy introductions, and district news in a cheerful and approachable way.
Yongsan-gu plans to use 'Yongirang' to produce a variety of content formats, including card news, Reels, and Shorts, to deliver administrative information and strengthen two-way communication with residents.
Park Heeyoung, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "We will develop this into a digital administrative platform that goes beyond simple information delivery and breathes together with our residents," and added, "I hope 'Yongirang' will become a communication hub for Yongsan, and I ask for your interest and support."
