Gyeonggi Province Draws 1,000 Applicants for Overseas Employment and Entrepreneurship Program... Experience in 14 Cities

More than 1,000 applicants have flocked to Gyeonggi Province's overseas employment and entrepreneurship support program for young people.

On May 8, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that a total of 995 people applied for the "Expansion of Overseas Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Gyeonggi Youth" program, which was open for three weeks from April 14 to May 2. This resulted in a high competition rate of 4.9 to 1, given the recruitment quota of 200 participants.

The "Expansion of Overseas Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Gyeonggi Youth" program is designed to provide on-site experience at overseas companies for unemployed young people in the province who aspire to work or start businesses abroad. Participants receive support for overseas company experience programs, accommodation, meals, airfare, travel insurance, and visa issuance fees (for applicable regions). Depending on the region, the four-week program includes local business language training, mentoring, job training, trade marketing internships at local Korean companies, and participation in overseas exhibitions, among other activities.

This year, the overseas company experience destinations include 13 countries and 14 cities: the United States (LA), Japan (Tokyo), Indonesia (Jakarta), Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City), Uzbekistan (Tashkent), India (Bengaluru), China (Chongqing, Guangzhou), Australia (Melbourne), Taiwan (Taipei), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Thailand (Bangkok), Germany (Frankfurt), and Canada (Vancouver).

By region, the United States (LA) recorded the highest competition rate at 11.5 to 1. This was followed by Taiwan (Taipei) at 8.7 to 1, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) at 7.0 to 1, Germany (Frankfurt) at 6.7 to 1, and Australia (Melbourne) at 6.6 to 1.

Gyeonggi Provincial Government will select participants through a three-stage process: document screening, online aptitude test, and interview. The first-stage document screening is being conducted from May 7 to May 15. On May 16, the list of candidates for the aptitude test will be announced. Afterward, participants will undergo the online aptitude test and interviews, where their spirit of challenge and potential for growth will be comprehensively evaluated. The final list of successful candidates will be announced on June 9.

Once the successful candidates are selected, pre-departure training will be provided, and the first group will depart for overseas experience at the end of July, followed by the second group in early November.

Park Kyungseo, Director of International Trade at Gyeonggi Provincial Government, said, "We were able to confirm the high level of interest and passion among young people for overseas company experience." He added, "Through this program, we will spare no effort to actively support Gyeonggi youth so they can demonstrate their abilities, contribute to society, and ultimately thrive on the global stage."
