Direct Explanation of Key Issues Including Gimcheon Sewage Treatment Plant
"We Will Go Anywhere to Secure National and Provincial Funding"
Nakho Bae, mayor of Gimcheon, has taken a proactive approach by meeting directly with senior officials from the Ministry of Environment to promote "on-site sales administration" for the expansion of environmental infrastructure in the Gimcheon area.
Nakho Bae, mayor of Gimcheon (first on the right), is visiting the Gimcheon Environmental Office with the Vice Minister of Environment (second) and other officials to inspect the office facilities.
On May 7, Mayor Bae visited the Gimcheon Environmental Office together with Byunghwa Lee, Vice Minister of Environment, and Jinsik Kim, Director of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office. They inspected the Gimcheon Sewage Treatment Plant facilities, and Mayor Bae actively requested national funding support for major environmental issues currently being pursued by Gimcheon City.
This meeting was the second official contact following Mayor Bae's visit to the Government Complex Sejong (Ministry of Environment) on April 28. During this visit, they directly inspected the sites for the Gimcheon Sewage Treatment Plant improvement project and the integrated biogas facility installation project, and discussed ways to reflect these initiatives in policy.
The Gimcheon Sewage Treatment Plant improvement project aims to respond to stricter effluent water quality standards for public sewage treatment facilities and increased sewage generation due to urban development. Mayor Bae emphasized the urgency and necessity of the project and stressed the justification for budget allocation.
Additionally, on this day, Mayor Bae also requested national funding support from the Ministry of Environment for Gimcheon City's major projects for 2026, including the expansion and relocation of the Hwanggeum Water Purification Plant, installation of wastewater treatment facilities in the Gimcheon Ilban Industrial Complex (Phase 4), maintenance of aging sewage pipelines, and installation of sewage systems in the rural villages of Bongsan and Sinam.
Mayor Nakho Bae stated, "I would like to thank Vice Minister Byunghwa Lee and Director Jinsik Kim for their interest in Gimcheon's major environmental issues and for visiting the sites in person. Together with National Assembly Member Eonseok Song, we will do our utmost as one team to secure national and provincial funding for the development of Gimcheon."
Meanwhile, Gimcheon City plans to continue close communication with central government agencies in the future and will make every effort to secure national funding for the promotion of major projects.
