Ongoing Conflict Continues After Terror Attack in Kashmir Region
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly urged both India and Pakistan, which have engaged in a military clash following a gun attack in the disputed Kashmir region that has intensified tensions, to exercise restraint in order to ease tensions and restore peace in the region.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on May 7, "The government expresses deep concern over the heightened tensions following this recent terrorist attack," and made this appeal. The official added, "The government is closely monitoring the situation and is taking measures to ensure the safety of our nationals. As a member of the United Nations Security Council, we will actively participate in discussions aimed at easing tensions in the region," the official emphasized.
After a gun attack near the Pahalgam resort area in Indian-administered Kashmir, a disputed region, on April 22, which resulted in 26 deaths and 17 injuries, military clashes have continued between India and Pakistan, both of which are considered de facto nuclear powers.
In the early morning of May 7 (local time), the Indian military launched "Operation Sindhur," attacking nine locations within Pakistan-administered Kashmir. In response, the Pakistani military criticized the operation as an "act of war," stating that 26 civilians were killed in the attack. As of now, the total number of casualties reported by both countries stands at 36 dead and 94 injured.
