Jo Gapje Criticizes Yoon's Martial Law as a 'Psycho-Drama,' Calls People Power Party Primary Its Sequel Joa Je Joa Je.com CEO. Asia Economy DB

Jo Gapje, CEO of Jo Gapje.com and known as a 'conservative commentator,' criticized the ongoing People Power Party primary crisis, likening it to a sequel to former President Yoon Suk-yeol's post-martial law 'psycho-drama.'

Appearing on JTBC's YouTube live show 'Genre Only Yeouido' on May 7, Jo was asked about the People Power Party's unification controversy. He said, "The pro-Yoon faction and the party leadership made a unification promise in the process of pushing Kim Moonsoo to eliminate him, in order to prevent Han Donghoon from being elected. As a result, Kim Moonsoo became a candidate with legitimacy and took a strong stance. The People Power Party has effectively given up on the presidential election; otherwise, they would not behave this way."

He added, "In reality, this can be seen as an attempt to hold onto party leadership in order to aim for the next opportunity, rather than contesting the presidential election. The reason for such drastic actions is that if they lose badly in this election, the party leadership and the pro-Yoon faction will be cornered."

Jo also shared his views on former President Yoon Suk-yeol's martial law incident. He said, "Former President Yoon's martial law was a delusional, convulsive act. As a commander-in-chief who never served in the military, it was as if he was playing with toy soldiers. The martial law was the first psycho-drama, and this latest unification controversy is its sequel."

Asked why the pro-Yoon faction insists on former Prime Minister Han Deoksoo while excluding Kim Moonsoo, who was against impeachment, Jo offered his perspective. He said, "They pushed Kim Moonsoo, whom they thought would be easy to handle, to stage a unification show, but the situation turned out to be more intransigent than expected. Today, former Prime Minister Han Deoksoo and Kim Moonsoo are supposed to meet, but I doubt either of them knows what they are supposed to say."
