Gwangju Namgu Launches 'Mobile Welfare Counseling Office' for Information-Vulnerable Groups

Gwangju Namgu Launches 'Mobile Welfare Counseling Office' for Information-Vulnerable Groups Exterior view of Gwangju Namgu District Office.

On May 7, Gwangju Namgu District announced that it is operating the Mobile Happy Welfare Counseling Office to support information-vulnerable groups who are unable to benefit from welfare services due to changes in welfare sector services every year.

Namgu District will operate the Happy Welfare Counseling Office until November, providing various welfare service information to information-vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, who have difficulty visiting administrative agencies.

The Mobile Happy Welfare Counseling Office is held once or twice a month at the Namgu Senior Welfare Center and the Namgu Disability Welfare Center, where most potential welfare beneficiaries and many information-vulnerable individuals frequently visit.

Four district social welfare officials visit these welfare facilities and provide a wide range of information to counseling recipients, including guidance on revised welfare systems, applications for omitted services, methods for seeking redress, and connections to other support programs.

In particular, to prevent residents from postponing service applications due to difficulties in paperwork even after obtaining new information, the district plans to immediately connect them on-site with the responsible officer at the administrative welfare center for their neighborhood, so that applications can be initiated ex officio.

A district official stated, "We expect to eliminate the imbalance in access to welfare service information among vulnerable residents and to promote psychological stability by improving access to welfare services. We will operate the Mobile Happy Welfare Counseling Office effectively to thoroughly address any gaps in the welfare safety net."
