Gijang County in Busan Collects 120 Tons of Agricultural Waste... Accelerates Efforts for a Clean Rural Environment

Gijang County in Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) has launched the "2025 First Half Intensive Agricultural Waste Collection Campaign" to improve the rural environment and create a cleaner agricultural setting during the busy spring farming season.

According to the county, this collection campaign was conducted for approximately two weeks from April 15 to April 30, with residents of Gijang County and its five subordinate towns and townships working together to collect about 120 tons of various agricultural waste, including used vinyl, pesticide containers, and fertilizer sacks.

Gijang County explained that, in particular, recyclable waste such as used vinyl and pesticide bottles was sorted and handed over free of charge to the Korea Environment Corporation, thereby reducing waste disposal costs while simultaneously achieving resource recycling benefits.

A Gijang County official stated, "If agricultural waste is left unattended or illegally incinerated, it can cause soil contamination and also negatively affect the health of nearby residents," adding, "This collection campaign is expected to contribute not only to cleaning up the rural environment but also to preventing wildfires."

The county plans to continue similar collection activities in the second half of the year, further enhancing farmers' environmental awareness and accelerating efforts to create a sustainable rural community.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, said, "Sustainable agriculture begins with a clean rural environment," and added, "Through agricultural waste collection activities in partnership with residents, we will create a pleasant and safe rural environment."
