Gwangju Songjeong Station is a historic site where protest crowds gathered in May 1980. Taking into account both the functional and symbolic value of this space, Gwangsan District decided to set up the information booth at Songjeong Station, which serves as the gateway to the Honam region. At the booth, information will be provided on the history and historical sites of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, as well as schedules for events taking place throughout Gwangju in celebration of the 45th anniversary and transportation guidance.

The district has also prepared a citizen participation campaign. On May 17, the day before 5·18, a memorial event will be held with youth and citizens in Cheondong Village, Imgok-dong, where the birthplace of martyr Yoon Sangwon is located. Experience programs such as "5·18 Gwangsan Trail Walk," "Word Puzzle," and "Making Memorial Lanterns" will take place, with the participation of the Gwangsan-gu Volunteer Center, Urban Regeneration Community Center, Nanum Culture Foundation, and the Community Social Security Council.

At the Yoon Sangwon Memorial Hall (Cheondong Village Democracy Community Center), a program titled "Understanding the 5·18 Uprising" will be offered, along with various hands-on activities such as exhibition tours, performances, and making peace keychains under the theme "The Roar of Gwangju That Saved Democracy."

Meanwhile, on May 14, the district will pay tribute at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery and hold memorial ceremonies at the birthplace and memorial hall of martyr Yoon Sangwon. District Mayor Park Byungkyu and young public officials from Gwangsan District born after the 1990s will also participate in the memorial events.
