Han Ducksoo: "Unification is the command of the people... I do not anticipate failure"

"If Politicians Fail, There Is No Future for Korea"

Han Ducksoo, former Prime Minister and independent presidential candidate, emphasized on May 7 that the unification with Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate, is "the command of the people," and stated, "I am not anticipating a failure in the unification."

At a press conference for foreign correspondents held at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul that afternoon, Han responded to a question about what he would do if unification with candidate Kim failed by saying, "Unification is a command from the people that is extremely strong and clear."

Han added, "The people are well aware that if politicians do not respond properly, there is no future for our country and economic and social reforms will be impossible."

He stated, "I have entrusted everything regarding the methodology of unification to the People Power Party," and added, "Whatever the method may be, I will accept it and respond to the demand for unification, and I will fully accept the outcome."

Han is scheduled to meet with candidate Kim at 6 p.m. that day to discuss the unification issue.
