Buseong Station Design Finalized
Construction to Begin, Aiming for Completion by 2028
On May 7, the city of Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province announced that the design for Buseong Station, the city's seventh metropolitan subway station, has been finalized and that construction will now move forward in earnest.
On this day, the city held a briefing session for the new Buseong Station design at the city hall's main conference room, presided over by Acting Mayor Kim Seokpil, with external experts and related officials in attendance.
The construction of Buseong Station is being pursued to address the anticipated increase in transportation demand resulting from a growing resident and floating population, as numerous urban development projects are underway throughout the Seobuk-gu area.
In August 2022, the city signed a construction project consignment agreement with the National Railroad Authority, and has been carrying out basic and detailed design work since December 2023.
The station will be built as an above-ground, two-story structure at 430 Budae-dong, Seobuk-gu, with a site area of 20,170 square meters and a total floor area of 1,770 square meters.
The station has been designed in a symmetrical form to provide accessibility from all directions, and transfer facilities such as bus stops and park-and-ride lots will be constructed to facilitate easy transfers to public transportation and other modes of travel.
The city plans to complete administrative procedures and begin 30 months of construction, aiming for completion by the end of 2028 and opening in 2029. Upon opening, daily passenger traffic at Buseong Station is projected to reach 12,272 by 2035.
Acting Mayor Kim Seokpil stated, "Around Buseong Station, 15 urban development projects are actively underway, covering a total area of 1.79 million square meters and targeting a planned population of 50,000. We expect Buseong Station to serve as a central axis for the region, greatly enhancing transportation convenience for citizens and playing a significant role in the city's development."
