Byunggu Kim, Executive Vice President of LG Display, Appointed as SID Fellow

"P-OLED Automotive Display Commercialization"

Byunggu Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Medium-sized Business Division at LG Display, has been appointed as a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID).

Each year, SID selects Fellows from among the top 0.1% of its members, based on recommendations from past Fellows and a rigorous review by the committee, recognizing those with outstanding research achievements. Once appointed, the title of Fellow is held for life.

On May 7, SID explained the reasons for Kim's selection, stating, "He was the first in the world to commercialize P (Plastic)-OLED with a tandem structure as an automotive display, and made significant contributions to the advancement of display technology by developing and popularizing high-performance IT displays such as foldable and in-cell touch displays."

Over the past 30 years, Executive Vice President Kim has dedicated himself to the display industry, contributing to the development of new products and foundational technologies. Recently, he pioneered the market for electric vehicle and premium automotive displays by developing P-OLED for vehicles. Notably, he applied the tandem OLED structure, which stacks two organic emitting layers, to P-OLED and developed it as an automotive display.

Previously, Executive Vice President Kim also developed an ultra-high-resolution liquid crystal display (LCD) product with high-sensitivity in-cell touch functionality by embedding the touch sensor within the display. In addition, he contributed to the commercialization of high-performance IT displays by being the first in the world to expand foldable technology, previously used only in smartphones, to displays larger than 13 inches.
