Geumcheon-gu Launches Master Plan to Transform Seoksu Station Area into New Southwestern Hub

Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that it has officially begun developing the "Seoksu Station Area Semi-Industrial Zone Master Plan" to foster the Seoksu Station area as the gateway and a transportation and industrial hub of southwestern Seoul.

The Seoksu Station area has long been designated as a semi-industrial zone, resulting in delayed development due to urban policy regulations and ongoing deterioration.

In response, the district is proactively initiating a master plan to address the changing conditions around Seoksu Station and to systematically manage the outdated semi-industrial zone.

The Seoksu Station area is seeing increased development potential, with active implementation of projects such as the Jungang Steel Market redevelopment and Moa Town small-scale housing renewal. It is also gaining attention as a gateway location connected to major metropolitan transportation networks, including the opening of the Shinansan Line, the Gangnam Circular Road, and the GTX metropolitan railway at Gasan Digital Complex Station.

The district plans to develop the Seoksu Station area by: establishing a next-generation advanced logistics complex linked with smart industries; building a metropolitan transportation network through a multi-modal transfer center; creating the Siheung-daebyeon Seoul Gateway Main Street; and developing a future-oriented, citizen-friendly integrated cultural space.

The master plan project will run through December. The district aims to increase the feasibility of development by reflecting Seoul City's direction for semi-industrial zone system improvements, formulating strategies for each key area, and promoting public discussion.

Additionally, the district will closely collaborate with a consultative body composed of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, and experts to strengthen administrative support and actively collect local residents' opinions to create a resident-friendly urban space.

Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "Seoksu Station area is the gateway to Seoul and the face of Geumcheon-gu, with great potential to become a smart hub integrating residential, transportation, industrial, and cultural elements." He added, "We will accelerate the project so that Geumcheon can be reborn as a transportation hub at the gateway to the metropolitan area, a place where everyone wants to live, and an advanced city full of job opportunities."

The Jungang Steel Market, covering approximately 40,000 square meters in the Seoksu Station area, will be redeveloped into an integrated cultural space combining residential, retail, and community facilities. The area will shed its outdated image as a steel market and be transformed into a future-oriented, specialized space offering various experiences and relaxation. The district is currently coordinating with Seoul City with the goal of obtaining project approval by 2025, aiming to complete development by 2030.
