Guro District Opens "Guro Picnic Garden" on Anyangcheon River

Guro District (headed by Mayor Jang Inhong) announced that the "Guro Picnic Garden," a picnic-style leisure space where people can enjoy nature and relaxation in the city center, will officially begin operations this month.

The Guro Picnic Garden was established as part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Waterfront Vitality Hub Development Project." The district, in collaboration with the Seoul city government, conducted basic and detailed design services from March 2023 to August 2024, and carried out construction from October 2024 until the end of last month. The total project cost was approximately 2 billion KRW, funded by the city.

What sets it apart from existing parks or campgrounds is that it is designed to allow for picnics using vehicles, known as "chacnic." "Chacnic" is a portmanteau of "car" and "picnic," referring to a new leisure activity where people can enjoy nature while sitting in their vehicles.

The garden has a total of 15 spaces, including 5 wooden deck areas and 10 chacnic zones. It also features a snack bar where visitors can purchase light refreshments or daily necessities, as well as a play area, making it especially popular among families with children.

The facility operates from May to November.

It is open to everyone daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. During the summer, hours are extended by two hours until 8:00 p.m. so visitors can enjoy the cool river breeze.

Reservations for the following month can be made on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 a.m. on the 25th of each month through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public service reservation system. For more detailed inquiries, visitors can contact the Guro District Office Parks and Greenery Division.

Jang Inhong, Mayor of Guro District, said, "I hope the Guro Picnic Garden becomes a place where families can create special memories and a healing landmark that represents Guro District. We will continue to expand various leisure spaces that bring vitality to everyday life."
