AI Chip Sales in China Will "Create Many Jobs in the U.S."
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed dissatisfaction with the U.S. government for restricting the export of Nvidia AI chips to China, stating that limiting access for American companies to the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) market would result in "tremendous losses."
In an interview with CNBC on May 6 (local time), Huang said that China's AI market is expected to grow to $50 billion (approximately 69 trillion won) within the next two to three years.
He explained that if companies are allowed to sell AI chips to China, both revenue and tax income would increase, and "many jobs would be created here in the United States." He added, "We need to remain agile."
To avoid U.S. government export restrictions on China, Nvidia had been selling its H20 chip, which has lower performance than the H100, to the Chinese market. However, the Donald Trump administration recently decided to include even the H20 in its export controls, causing Nvidia to face difficulties in its Chinese operations. Nvidia has estimated that its quarterly losses from these new regulations could reach $5.5 billion (approximately 7.6 trillion won).
Huang emphasized, "The world is hungry for AI right now and eager to utilize it," adding, "Let's put American AI out there for everyone, right now."
