Support for Book Production... Exhibition Also Planned
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province is supporting citizens not only with writing classes but also by helping them write and publish their own books.
On May 7, Gwangmyeong City announced that starting this month, it will implement the "From Writing to Publishing: Citizen Creative Platform Project." This initiative supports the entire creative process for citizens, connecting writing classes, manuscript preparation, independent publishing, book fair exhibitions, and publication celebrations.
The "Gwangmyeong Art Book Fair" held last October at the Gwangmyeong Citizens Gymnasium. Starting this month, Gwangmyeong City will provide a program supporting the entire creative process for citizens, including writing classes, book publishing, and exhibitions. Provided by Gwangmyeong City
First, from May 23 to July 18, the city will hold a specialized citizen writer class titled "A Line of Writing, Into a Book" at Cheolsan Library. The program, open to 15 participants, will guide them through writing autobiographical stories or original content under the instruction of a professional instructor. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate. Those interested can apply on a first-come, first-served basis starting May 14 through the "Gwangmyeong City Library" website.
In July, the city will run an independent publishing support program called "Writing Becomes a Book," which is open to the general public. After collecting creative manuscripts, 32 participants will be selected, and each will receive support to produce 10 copies of their book.
The books created by participants will be exhibited and sold at the "Gwangmyeong Book Fair," which will be held in conjunction with the Gwangmyeong Book Festival in September. At the book fair, there will also be opportunities for authors and citizens to meet and communicate directly.
At the end of the year, the city will host the "Gwangmyeong City Library Publication Celebration and Book Exhibition." This event will share the works of local creators with citizens and highlight the city's ongoing efforts to support book culture.
