Directly Listening to Residents' Voices
Expanding Practical Support for Livelihoods, Agriculture, and Housing
Andong City in North Gyeongsang Province has launched full-scale recovery support for local residents affected by a recent large wildfire by holding "on-site communication meetings" in the affected areas.
Kwon Kichang, mayor of Andong City, is listening to the words of residents affected by the wildfire at the on-site communication meeting held on the 6th.
These meetings were held through May 6 in areas that suffered significant wildfire damage, including Iljik-myeon, Namsun-myeon, Imha-myeon, and Gilan-myeon. Additional meetings are scheduled to take place in Imdong-myeon and Namhu-myeon on May 7 and 8.
Andong City Hall staff visited the sites in person to meet with village leaders, members of the disaster response committee, and representatives of senior centers, where they explained wildfire recovery plans and gathered feedback from residents.
During the meetings, various recovery measures were introduced, including ▲restoration of damaged homes and agricultural facilities, ▲reforestation, and ▲support for stabilizing daily life. Residents strongly called for practical and swift recovery measures, such as expanded livelihood assistance, improvements to residential environments, and restoration of agricultural production infrastructure.
Based on the feedback collected during these meetings, Andong City plans to submit proposals to the central government and coordinate with relevant ministries. The city also intends to establish both immediate and long-term plans for prompt recovery of daily life, long-term forest restoration, and regional reconstruction.
Mayor Kwon Kichang of Andong City stated, "These meetings are not just briefings, but opportunities for communication where we consider recovery directions together with the affected residents," adding, "We will continue to listen to every resident and do our utmost to ensure that practical support is provided."
