Scheffler's Perfect Winning Strategy at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Added Vokey Design WedgeWorks SM10 60-Degree
Stayed Loyal to TaylorMade Qi10 Driver
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) has made history with a flawless club setup.
On May 4 (local time), at TPC Craig Ranch (par 71, 7,569 yards) in McKinney, Texas, Scheffler secured a dominant 8-shot victory (31-under-par 253) at the PGA Tour CJ Cup Byron Nelson (total prize money: $9.9 million). He led the leaderboard from start to finish for a wire-to-wire win. He also tied the PGA Tour 72-hole scoring record. This marked his 14th career victory and his first in eight months since the Tour Championship in September 2024. The winner's prize was $1,782,000 (approximately 2.5 billion KRW).

Scheffler deliberated over which clubs to put in his caddie bag ahead of this hometown event in Dallas. He was spotted testing TaylorMade's new Qi35 driver. However, he ultimately stuck with the reliable Qi10, which has helped him claim 10 wins worldwide since March 2023. The results were perfect. Over four rounds, he averaged 304.30 yards off the tee with a fairway hit rate of 71.43%.
He made a change in his wedges. For the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, he added a Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks SM10 60-degree wedge, opting for the K grind, which offers a wider sole and greater forgiveness. Scheffler also used the older SM8 model to win the Masters in 2022. Thanks to powerful drives, precise wedge shots, and an average of 1.53 putts per green in regulation, he secured his first win of the year.
