Gwangju University announced on May 5 that it recently held the 2025 "River City 2 (River+City)" Architecture and Urban Design Workshop, a university alliance project in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
This workshop was organized by the Gwangju-Jeonnam Architects Association of the Korean Institute of Architects and sponsored by Gwangju City. It was designed to provide an opportunity for students majoring in architecture from the region to discuss and reflect on the future of local architecture and urban environments, focusing on topics related to regional issues.
Now in its second year, the workshop was planned as a platform for exchanging ideas about urban and architectural design to create attractive waterfront city spaces centered on the Yeongsan River, building on and expanding last year's theme.
The Department of Architecture at Gwangju University hosted the first workshop for the second consecutive year. This event brought together more than 60 participants, including 21 fourth-year students from Gwangju University, as well as students from the Department of Urban and Architectural Design and the Department of Architectural Design (Yeosu Campus) at Chonnam National University. As in the previous year, students will spend the semester surveying and analyzing the current status of the Yeongsan River area and its waterfront spaces, and each school will propose a variety of architectural and urban design plans through team-based study projects.
The final results will be showcased at the special exhibition of the Gwangju-Asia Architecture Grand Prix, scheduled to be held around October.
