16 Felt Reports Received Nationwide

At 7:53:59 a.m. on May 5, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 occurred off the coast of Taean County, South Chungcheong Province. As a result, reports were received from the Seoul metropolitan area and surrounding regions from people who felt the tremor.

A magnitude of 3.7 is typically strong enough for a small number of people, especially those on upper floors or in quiet environments, to feel the shaking. Some may wake up from sleep, and items such as dishes and windows may rattle.


According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on May 5, a total of 16 reports of tremors (felt reports) were received nationwide. These included 2 from northern Gyeonggi Province, 4 from southern Gyeonggi Province, 1 from Incheon, 3 from South Chungcheong Province, and 6 from Seoul. The reports included statements such as "the building is shaking" and "inquiries about the earthquake." No on-site emergency response was required.


The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that, as of now, there have been no reports of damage related to this earthquake.


The Korea Meteorological Administration announced on May 5 that "residents in the vicinity of the earthquake may feel the tremor" and advised people to pay attention to safety. The South Chungcheong Provincial Government also sent out a disaster safety text message on the same day, urging residents to protect themselves from falling objects, evacuate outdoors after the shaking stops, and be cautious of aftershocks.
