This event was organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation and to reflect on the meaning of liberation, 100 days ahead of Liberation Day on August 15. Approximately 2,000 citizens participated, enjoying a wide range of performances, exhibitions, and hands-on programs centered around the themes of independence and liberation. The event was designed to make the concept of honoring veterans more accessible and relatable to the public.
The first part of the event began with a powerful performance by the Keimyung University Taekwondo Demonstration Team, followed by the 2nd Operations Command Military Band, a children's vocal ensemble, and a stage by soprano Lee Yoonkyung, captivating the audience.
In the second part, a disciplined performance by the 2nd Operations Command Honor Guard was followed by a gala performance of the musical "Sound of Miracle," inspired by Daegu's representative independence movement, the National Debt Repayment Movement. The event concluded with a grand chorus featuring a choir and orchestra of 815 people, spanning generations from five-year-old children to 85-year-old seniors.
At the event site, exhibition booths from major institutions such as the Independence Hall of Korea and the Daegu Prison History Museum introduced citizens to the history of the evolution of the Taegeukgi and the independence movement. There were also various hands-on booths, including military equipment displays, survival experiences, a mobile safety experience vehicle, and Taegeukgi handprint activities, making it a cultural venue that families could enjoy together.
Kim Jongsool, Director of the Daegu Regional Veterans Office, stated, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity to reflect on the significance of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and to naturally instill the values of patriotism and honoring veterans in the hearts of the people through culture." He added, "I would also like to express my deep gratitude to the patriotic forebears, national merit recipients, and uniformed personnel who have dedicated themselves to the country."
