On May 3, groups supporting former President Yoon Sukyeol and progressive organizations held rallies at various locations in downtown Seoul.
The Korean Patriotic Movement Headquarters (Daegukbon), led by Pastor Jeon Kwanghoon, held the "Gwanghwamun National Rally for the Right of Resistance" around Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu starting at 1 p.m. that day.
According to unofficial police estimates, about 10,000 participants waved the Taegeukgi and the Stars and Stripes, chanting slogans such as "Martial law was justified" and "Reveal the fraudulent election."
Pastor Jeon welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to remand Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, for a guilty verdict, but also claimed that it was possible to be elected through a fraudulent election.
The civic group Candlelight Action held its 138th Candlelight March rally in front of the Supreme Court in Seocho-gu from 4 p.m. under the slogan "Strike down the judicial mafia."
According to unofficial police estimates, 5,000 people gathered at Exit 7 of Seocho Station. Holding placards that read "Let's build a democratic government" and "Completely eradicate the rebellion forces," they stated that they suspected Lee's case was remanded with political intent.
Kim Jiseon, co-representative of Seoul Candlelight Action, said, "While those who committed insurrection have had their detentions canceled and even been granted bail, with trials scheduled through the end of the year, the move to destroy Lee Jaemyung is lightning-fast," adding, "The Supreme Court is playing legal games at a time when the people's choice is imminent."
