On May 3, the Progressive Party criticized the selection of former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo as the People Power Party's presidential candidate, calling him "the avatar of insurrection ringleader Yoon Sukyeol" and stating that it was "a choice befitting a party of insurrection."

Hong Seonggyu, chief spokesperson for the Progressive Party, said in a statement that day, "This is an explicit declaration of intent to once again plot an insurrection against the people of our country," and described it as "an act of shamelessness unprecedented since the founding of Korea."
Hong pointed out, "(Former Minister Kim) was the only cabinet member who refused the solemn order of our people to 'stand and apologize' during the National Assembly's urgent inquiry immediately after the 12·3 insurrection attempt," adding, "He is also the person who, together with Jeon Gwanghun, created the Liberty Unification Party, an extreme right-wing violent group disguised as a political party."
Hong further stated, "Now, the only thing left is a resolute judgment and punishment of these shameless and ruthless 'enemies of democracy.'"
