"Will Pursue Constitutional Amendment to Change the 1987 System"

Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor, who was elected as the final presidential candidate for the People Power Party on May 3, stated, "To prevent the Democratic Party and the Lee Jaemyung faction from coming to power, I will build a strong alliance with any group if necessary."

Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, made these remarks during his acceptance speech at the final candidate selection convention held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on this day.

Kim pledged, "We have gathered here with the determination to win this presidential election at all costs," and added, "Even if I am completely shattered, I will ensure victory."

Kim emphasized political reform, declaring his intention to change the 1987 system. To achieve this, he pledged to pursue constitutional revision and to reform the political, judicial, and electoral systems. He also announced plans to allow the Board of Audit and Inspection to audit the National Election Commission and to abolish the early voting system.

He directed criticism at Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Kim asserted, "If we fail to stop the Democratic Party's dictatorship, liberal democracy will collapse, and the future of the Republic of Korea will be bleak." He further declared, "We must not allow someone who has tainted the National Assembly with lies and crimes to become the President of the Republic of Korea."

Kim also mentioned a "big tent" strategy for presidential victory. He stated, "I will build a strong alliance with any group," and added, "I will pursue this in a manner and through procedures that the public and party members can accept."

In conclusion, Kim said, "I will become a president who fulfills the dreams of the youth, a president for jobs, a security president who eliminates the fear of North Korea's nuclear weapons, and a president for free unification. I will set the Republic of Korea on a path to even greater greatness."

On this day, Kim recorded a total vote share of 56.53%, defeating former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon, who received 43.47%. In the party member vote, Kim led with 61.25% (246,519 votes), surpassing Han's 38.75% (155,961 votes) by more than 20 percentage points. In public opinion polls, Kim also led with 51.81%, ahead of Han's 48.19%.
