"Even if cider floats in the coastal waters of Incheon..." Korea's First Cider Reborn After 120 Years

Young Entrepreneurs Launch 'The First Cider of Incheon Coastal Waters'
"Beverage Planned to Remember the History of Incheon Cider"

"Even if cider floats in the coastal waters of Incheon, you can't drink it without a cup."

In Incheon, where Korea's first cider was produced in 1905, a new cider that revives the historical significance of the first cider has been created by local young people.

Contemplative, a youth startup, announced on May 3 that it has launched 'The First Cider of Incheon Coastal Waters,' a product that highlights the region's historical identity. This product was developed with inspiration from 'Byeolpyo Cider,' Korea's first cider, which was produced in 1905 at the Incheon Carbonated Water Factory in Sinheung-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon.

Incheon cider was once a popular beverage, to the extent that it appeared in the 'Cider Song'?"Even if cider floats in the coastal waters of Incheon, you can't drink it without a cup"?popularized by the late comedian Seo Youngchun in the 1960s. However, after the launch of 'Chilsung Cider' in 1950, Incheon cider quickly faded into history. In response, Contemplative planned this beverage to remember the history of Incheon cider and to support a new beginning.

'The First Cider of Incheon Coastal Waters' is zero sugar and zero calorie, featuring a clean taste of soda lime with a hint of apple mint and smooth carbonation. To facilitate easier recycling, glass bottles are used instead of plastic.

Contemplative, which was founded in March last year with five employees, is holding a pop-up store at Incheon Sinpo International Market from May 3 to May 4, selling 'The First Cider of Incheon Coastal Waters' for 4,700 won per 250ml bottle (regular price 5,400 won). The first 1,000 visitors will also have the opportunity to sample the cider for free. In addition, online sales began on May 2. After the pop-up store event, the cider will be supplied to about 10 cafes near Sinpo Market.

Currently, 'The First Cider of Incheon Coastal Waters' is manufactured on an OEM basis at a factory in North Jeolla Province, but Contemplative plans to establish a cider production facility near the Incheon coastal area in the future. Through this, the company aims to properly revive Incheon cider and create a space where consumers can experience it.

Jung Heesu, CEO of Contemplative, said, "We plan to promote our product at Incheon's major festivals, such as the Jemulpo Renaissance Marathon and the Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Festival," adding, "We will do our best to make this newly launched cider a representative beverage of the region."
