Prosecutors Question Complainant in Yoon Suk-yeol Public Official Election Act Violation Case

Prosecutors investigating former President Yoon Suk-yeol on charges including violations of the Public Official Election Act have questioned the complainant in the case.

On May 2, the Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Cho Minwoo) summoned and questioned Ahn Jingul, head of the Center for People's Livelihood Economy, as a complainant in the case involving alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act and the Political Parties Act by former President Yoon.

Previously, the Center for People's Livelihood Economy and the civic group "Group for Prosecutors Prosecuting Prosecutors," among others, filed complaints in January and November of last year. They alleged that former President Yoon and others operated at least three illegal campaign offices without reporting them to the National Election Commission, intervened in the People Power Party's leadership election, and made false explanations regarding suspicions of Kim Keonhee's involvement in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case.

Regarding the day's questioning, Ahn's legal representative stated, "The questioning took place from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the prosecution actively investigated the alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act and the Political Parties Act by former President Yoon." He added, "Ahn urged the prosecution to promptly summon and conduct a compulsory investigation of former President Yoon and others."

Until now, even after receiving these complaints, prosecutors were unable to investigate former President Yoon due to the sitting president's immunity from prosecution. However, after he lost this immunity due to impeachment, it is reported that the prosecution determined they could proceed with the investigation.

Recently, the prosecution has also questioned politicians and civic groups who filed similar complaints against former President Yoon and others.
