Gumi City Launches All-Out Efforts to Address Local Issues and Secure National Funding

Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is continuing its all-out efforts to address local issues and secure national funding.

Gumi City Launches All-Out Efforts to Address Local Issues and Secure National Funding Gim Jangho, mayor of Gumi City, is meeting Jang Miran, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, presenting the 2025 Gumi City Athletics character and taking a commemorative photo.

Jangho Kim, Mayor of Gumi, visited the Government Complex Sejong from April 28 to 29, holding meetings with senior officials from major ministries, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. He requested active support from each ministry.


On April 28, the Gumi mayor's delegation first met with Seongseop Kim, Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, to explain the necessity of establishing 'Startup Field' as a startup hub in Gumi and to discuss measures to revitalize the local startup ecosystem. They also requested that national funding be allocated to this project.


Next, they held a meeting with Jang Miran, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, requesting support for the successful hosting of the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships and inviting her to attend the opening ceremony. Gumi City announced its plan to expand the region's cultural and sports infrastructure and raise its international profile through this event.


On April 29, they met with Byunghwa Lee, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environment, explaining key issues such as the installation of a cable car at Geumosan Provincial Park, the construction of the second-phase buffer retention facility in the Gumi National Industrial Complex 5, and the designation of Gumi as a leading carbon-neutral city. They requested prompt government support for these initiatives.


During the visit to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, they met with Minjae Kim, Deputy Minister, and Yeonbyung Park, Director General for Local Autonomy, to propose easing the criteria for being considered a "large city with a population of 500,000."


In addition, they requested support from Changgyu Lee, Director General of Organization, for increasing the workforce at the Gumi Police Station. They also emphasized the urgency and importance of the comprehensive flood risk management project for the Doge District to Byungkwon Oh, Director General for Natural Disaster Management, and Changseong Jeong, Director General for Natural Disaster Response, seeking cooperation from each ministry.


In meetings with Jongmok Ha, Director General for Local Finance, and Seonju Jin, Director of the Grant Tax Division, they proposed special grant tax support for the construction of the Geoui-dong urban planning road, which is linked to the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.


Jangho Kim, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Securing national funding is the key to regional development," and added, "We will strengthen communication with central ministries until the budget is reflected in their proposals and respond strategically throughout the pre-budgeting cycle to achieve tangible regional development."
