Korea Expressway Corporation announced on May 2 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lee Namchul, Mayor of Goryeong County, at its headquarters on April 30 for the installation of the 'Daegaya Hi-Pass IC (Daegu-bound)' on the Gwangju-Daegu Expressway.
The Daegaya Hi-Pass IC will be located between Goryeong IC and Donggoryeong IC, and will be directly connected to Illyang-ro in Daegaya-eup. The section has an average daily traffic volume of about 56,000 vehicles, and the total project cost amounts to 12.4 billion won.
For this project, Korea Expressway Corporation will be responsible for detailed design, permits, and construction, while Goryeong County will handle land compensation for site acquisition. The project will begin with detailed design this year, aiming for completion in 2028.
Ham Jinkyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, stated, "This agreement is the result of cooperation to expand mobility rights for local residents and invigorate the regional economy," adding, "We will ensure the project proceeds smoothly so that expressway users can travel more conveniently and safely."
Once the Daegaya Hi-Pass IC opens, accessibility to the center of Goryeong County will be improved, which is expected to not only alleviate traffic congestion but also generate tangible economic benefits such as reduced logistics costs and increased tourist inflow.
