Inspections to Continue Until May 9

Jeonnam Province has inspected 21 onshore and offshore wind power complexes currently in commercial operation in the province to prevent the recurrence of incidents similar to the recent tower collapse at the Geumseongsan Wind Power Plant in Hwasun. In addition, by May 9, the province will verify the status of joint safety inspections conducted together with city and county governments.
As the installation of renewable energy facilities such as wind power continues to increase, the importance of safety management for these facilities is also growing.
In response, on April 23, Jeonnam Province inspected the accident site and began verifying the status of joint safety inspections with city and county governments.
Joint inspection teams composed of provincial and municipal officials are checking the safety management status of key wind turbine components, including blades, nacelles, and towers, and are guiding operators to strengthen compliance with their safety obligations.
In particular, before the revision of the Electrical Safety Control Act, for wind power facilities with a capacity of 10 MW (10,000 kilowatts) or more, Jeonnam Province has requested the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to ensure that the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, which has been delegated authority under Article 17, Paragraph 3 of the Enforcement Decree of the Electrical Safety Control Act, promptly conducts special safety inspections and determines the cause of such incidents.
Kang Sanggu, Director of the Energy Industry Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "We plan to provide the necessary administrative support to ensure a swift determination of the cause of the wind turbine tower accident."
