Seoul City Opens Call for Entries for 43rd Architecture Award Until June 5 The 43rd Seoul Metropolitan Government Architecture Award Contest Poster. Seoul Metropolitan Government

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that it will be accepting entries for the 43rd Seoul Metropolitan Government Architecture Award from the 8th until June 5th.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government Architecture Award, which began in 1979, is now in its 43rd year. As the most prestigious award in Seoul’s architectural sector, it has annually recognized individuals who have contributed to the advancement of architectural culture and technology by encouraging outstanding buildings.

This year’s contest will focus on discovering architectural works that offer a new perspective on Seoul’s uniqueness, identity, and locality from a future-oriented viewpoint, in line with the theme of this year’s Seoul Architecture Festival, "Seoul-ness: Multi-Layered City."

Eligible entries include buildings and remodeled structures located in Seoul that received occupancy approval within the past three years, from 2022 to last year.

The final winners will be selected as follows: one Grand Prize, two Excellence Awards, approximately six Merit Awards, and around three Special Awards. The Special Awards will be chosen by the Architecture Award Jury, reflecting citizen opinions.

The award-winning works will be exhibited at the 17th Seoul Architecture Festival, scheduled for late September. The awards ceremony will also take place during the event.

Winners will receive special privileges, such as preferential consideration when selecting external members (including the Architecture Committee, public architects, and advisory members) for Seoul’s architectural projects, as well as eligibility to participate in limited design competitions for Seoul Metropolitan Government projects. In particular, the Grand Prize winner will be given the opportunity to hold a "Grand Prize Winner’s Special Exhibition" at the next Seoul Architecture Festival.

Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "This year’s Seoul Metropolitan Government Architecture Award will focus on discovering architectural works that provide a new perspective on Seoul’s uniqueness, identity, and locality."
