Pohang Mayor Lee Kangdeok urged officials to make every effort to thoroughly implement key projects and build a foundation for the city’s greater advancement.

At the expanded executive meeting for May held on the 2nd, Pohang City presented themed reports on the Welfare Policy Division’s “Pohang-Style Community Integrated Care by Life Cycle” implementation plan and the MICE Industry Division’s preparations for the “2025 World Green Growth Forum,” while sharing major current issues.

Mayor Lee emphasized the need to focus on establishing a Pohang-style care infrastructure that connects medical and care services, so that seniors can live healthy and safe lives, thereby enhancing the city’s quality and dignity.

He also called for thorough preparations to successfully host the World Green Growth Forum, a MICE event unique to Pohang, to use it as an opportunity to strengthen the city’s competitiveness and generate various ripple effects, including attracting international conferences and expanding global networks.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of maintaining strict political neutrality among public officials ahead of the presidential election, ensuring the smooth execution of statutory duties, and taking proactive measures such as developing preventive plans for the upcoming summer and flood season, conducting pre-inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities, and carrying out resident evacuation drills.

He further requested efforts to minimize inconvenience for citizens and tourists by operating an integrated situation room and managing major tourist attractions during the May golden holiday period, as well as to invigorate the local economy.

Mayor Lee stated, “The successful hosting of the World Green Growth Forum will serve as a turning point for fostering Pohang’s MICE industry and achieving sustainable urban development,” and added, “I ask each department to take responsibility and do their utmost in promoting key projects for the development of Pohang and the improvement of citizens’ quality of life.”
