May, the Month of Family, is the Month for a Gwangyang Trip

Recommendations for Diverse Cultural and Artistic Spaces
Including Art Museums, Art Warehouses, and Eco Parks

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province is drawing attention by introducing tourist destinations where families, couples, and other loved ones can enjoy a cozy getaway in May, the Month of Family.


The city first recommended cultural spaces where visitors can enjoy high-quality art, including the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, Gwangyang Art Warehouse, POSCO PR Center and Museum, Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center, and Inseori Park. In addition, the city introduced wellness tourism programs at Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, which features the Forest of Healing, Wood Culture Experience Center, and Forest Museum.

The Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art is currently hosting a wide spectrum of exhibitions, including "Mirror & Metaphor" by Larry Pittman, the invitational exhibition "Camellia, the Face of Time" by Kang Jongyeol, the young artists' exhibition "When Knocking on the Disappeared Door," and the donation exhibition room "Wind·Light·Waves." In celebration of "2025 Museum·Art Museum Week" and "May! Jeonnam Visiting Month," admission is free throughout May. The museum will be open as usual on May 5 and 6 during the golden holiday period and will be closed on May 7.


Gwangyang Art Warehouse, located adjacent to the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, is a multi-complex cultural space featuring compact exhibition areas, cultural and arts programs, and comfortable, relaxed rest spaces. It is closed every Monday.


The POSCO PR Center, which opened in April and has quickly become a local landmark, can be visited through advance tour reservations. The POSCO Museum inside the PR Center is open to the public without reservation, and is currently holding a collection exhibition themed "Journey of Light" to commemorate its opening. The exhibition consists of two sessions: Inner Light and Light of Nature. It is open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The center is closed on Sundays and public holidays.


At the Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center, a comparative exhibition is being held under the theme "Modern Painters Loved by Bearded Yoon Sang," featuring works by ten artists who participated in the commemorative calligraphy and painting album for the "Yoon Sang Collection of Modern Painters Exhibition." This exhibition runs until May 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free admission, and will remain open during the golden holiday period without any closures.


Inseori Park is a multi-complex cultural space equipped with exhibition halls, accommodations, a cafe, and an art shop, and is emerging as a popular spot among the MZ generation. While it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, it will be open as usual on May 5, Children's Day.


In particular, the exhibition space "Banchanggo," a renovated old grain warehouse, is currently hosting the "Joyful Spring" exhibition, featuring works by renowned figurative painter Kim Jonghak, happiness-themed artist Eva Armisen, Lee Waljong, and the cheerful artist Gappao.


Gwangyang Wine Cave and Gwangyang Eco Park are all-weather multi-complex cultural spaces open 365 days a year, making them ideal for families to enjoy together. In celebration of "May Jeonnam Visiting Month," a "1+1 Admission Ticket" event is being held. To participate, visitors should download the "Jeonnam Tourism" app and select "Gwangyang City" under the "Blue Tour" tab.


Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest is a wellness tourism destination located on the slopes of Baegunsan Mountain at an elevation of 1,222 meters, and is fully equipped with the Forest of Healing, Wood Culture Experience Center, Forest Museum, red clay trails, seminar rooms, and accommodation facilities.


The forest healing program, "Forest of Healing," consists of outdoor activities such as air baths and foot baths, as well as indoor experiences like aromatherapy, meditation yoga, and foot baths. The program runs twice daily, at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., each session lasting two hours.


The Wood Culture Experience Center is a place to rediscover the precious value of wood, offering woodworking studios at various skill levels, such as Camellia Studio, Maehwa Studio, and Baegun Studio. There is also a "Wood Imagination Playground" for children.


The Baegunsan Forest Museum provides a space to recognize and educate about the value of disappearing forests in the era of climate change. It is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but visitors must enter at least one hour before closing. The museum will be open as usual during the golden holiday period, but will be closed on May 6.
