Kim Eo Jun's Remarks Appear to Have Influenced the Surge
The book "In the End, the People Do It," written by Lee Jae Myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, has once again climbed to the top of the bestseller list. As of May 2, according to the Kyobo Bookstore website, "In the End, the People Do It" ranked first in Kyobo Bookstore's "Online Daily Bestsellers." This book immediately reached the top of the bestseller list upon its release two weeks ago, but its momentum slowed last week when "Light and Thread," a new book by Han Kang, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature, was published. However, on the previous day, the Supreme Court issued a remand decision with a guilty verdict in Lee Jae Myung's violation of the Public Official Election Act, which appears to have reignited interest in the book among his supporters as a show of encouragement. In fact, on this day, Lee Jae Myung's supporters posted messages online encouraging others to purchase, read, or borrow the book from reading platforms and local libraries.
The renewed rise of Lee Jae Myung's book to the number one spot also appears to have been influenced by remarks from broadcaster Kim Eo Jun. On April 30, Kim Eo Jun mentioned on his YouTube channel "Kim Eo Jun's News Factory: Humility Is Hard" that, "What worries me?and this is the first time I'm saying this?is Lee's lawyer fees." He continued, "Lee is not the type to talk about these things, so people probably have no idea, but with so many trials, the legal fees must be enormous. That's also why the prosecution keeps indicting him so much. Because if you have to respond to all that, you'll be financially ruined."

He added, "None of the presidential campaign fundraising can be used for this. That would be a violation of the Political Funds Act, and the party cannot pay his legal fees on his behalf either." He emphasized, "The reason this is happening to him is because he is the Democratic Party's number one candidate." Kim Eo Jun further stated, "It's absurd that he has to face five trials over these baseless indictments, and he has to bear all the costs personally. And you can't even fundraise separately for this, because that would violate the Political Funds Act." He then asked, "What books does Lee have out recently?" and added, "I think we need to run a book campaign for a while."
